our story
It all began when John J. Winkels started his own electrical contracting business in 1956. Though he only had a single employee, a couple of service trucks, and a garage for an office, John quickly gained a reputation throughout the greater Rochester area for doing honest, quality work.
Winkels Electric became a multigenerational business when John sold it to his son and daughter-in-law in 1981. As the current owners of Winkels Electric, John H. Winkels and his wife Sheila are grateful to have employed John’s brothers over the years. Dean Winkels, Dick Winkels and Tim J. Winkels have all retired, although John and Sheila’s sons Dan Winkels and Tim M. Winkels have since joined the team.
In short: It’s a family affair.
Our business has always been committed to residential and service call work. Our growth over the decades has enabled us to take on larger projects, ranging from new construction to additions and remodels. We have also become involved in underground wiring, trenching, and the installation of traffic signal systems, parking lot lighting, and electric signage. Even so, we remain a small business at heart, and will forever feel grateful toward every loyal customer we owe our success to. We hope to make you one of them soon!
